DIRTCAMP

IT’S BACK!! After a two year hiatus (like most things, ty COVID) 2022 is the return of everyone’s favourite event- Dirtcamp!!

I’m trying to rack my near borderline useless memory, as I cast it back to the origins of Dirtcamp. Founded by the DTRA, back in (I think) 2014 the DTRA’s ‘Ladies Day’ kickstarted the annual event. The first ever ‘Ladies Day’ was hosted at Rye House Speedway as an opportunity for women to come along and give Flat Track a go, in a totally inclusive and non-judgemental environment, alongside like-minded women.

Long-story short, it was a hit. For 2015 it progressed into a weekend long event held at Greenfield Dirt Track and came to incorporate Motocross, Trials, a fun Enduro race, Camping and all round good times.

The whole team involved quickly realised how great an opportunity the Dirtcamp weekend was for women that wanted to get into off-road riding, but had absolutely no idea how. It provided a non-committal stepping stone into the world of off-road. Because, let’s face it- unless you’re fortunate enough to have encouraging family and friends around you, with an existing interest in dirtbiking- how the hell are you meant to get into it? Dirtcamp has always come out trumps at acting as a feeder into the DTRA, year on year we usually get one new regular racer as a result of the weekend, along with a handful that come along and race when they have the time. It’s all about opportunity and representation.

The DTRA has over 20 women racing in the series. I think that a lot of that is thanks to the likes of Dirtcamp, as well as the fact that the brands associated with the DTRA are so inclusive and encouraging of everyone getting on two wheels.

For 2022, Dirtcamp is strategically positioned on the same weekend as International Female Ride Day© (IFRD)- the first Saturday in May, is a global day celebrating the cultural, social and active lifestyles of women who ride and enjoy motorcycling. The day also marks a call to action for fast-tracking gender equality, awareness, and respect for women in motorcycling or motorsport. It was thought when better to host Dirtcamp?

So join us on the weekend of the 7/8th May at Greenefield Dirt Track, in the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds for a weekend of riding. Bikes and kit (if needed) are provided in the cost, as is camping with the whole gang! You especially don’t want to miss the lighting of the massive bonfire, it always gets creative!

Tickets go on sale on the 28th Feb at 7pm via the DTRA’s site here, be quick though!! 2019’s event sold out in under an hour- maybe everyone knew what was coming?

Oh yeah- to add do that DAYS ON THE DIRT IS BACK and will be supporting the event! Check out ‘Shop Days on the Dirt’ for more info!
